Sir Terry Leahy

Leahy was appointed to the board in 1992, while in 1995 Tesco became the UK's biggest retailer. Leahy became chief executive in 1997,[1] on the retirement of mentor Lord MacLaurin who wanted to appoint a successor to lead international expansion. Tesco has stretched its lead as the UK's largest retailer since then and has grown significantly internationally, while Leahy continues to visit a Tesco store somewhere every week, normally on a Friday.
Leahy was chosen as Britain's "Business Leader of the Year" in 2003 and the Fortune European Businessman of the Year for 2004.[6] In 2005 he was selected as Britain's most admired business leader by Management Today,[7] and a Guardian Unlimited Politics panel found him to be the most influential non-elected person in Britain in 2007.[8] In 2006, Leahy came 3rd place in the annual Rear of the Year competition.
Leahy was granted the freedom of the city of Liverpool and knighted in 2002.[3] He was Chancellor of UMIST, his alma mater, from that year until 1 October 2004, when he became a co-chancellor of the newly-formed University of Manchester.[9] He has been honoured with a Doctor of Science from Cranfield University on 7 June 2007. |

As the economic advisor to MasterCard Worldwide in Asia/Pacific since 1999, Yuwa has been responsible for monitoring and forecasting economic growth and emerging business development trends in the region. Dr Paul Freathy

Paul has two main research areas. The first reflects the work he began when he was a Ph.D student and focuses upon employment/labour market structures in retailing. More recently he has begun to research into the area of airport retailing. He has completed a book with the catchy title of 'European Airport Retailing'. This was published by Macmillan in July 1998.
Paul teaches on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. At undergraduate level, he is co-ordinator for 45R6: Retail Buying/Retail Logistics. He also teaches on 45R5: Retail Operations and 45M7: Marketing Decisions. At postgraduate level, the majority of his teaching is on the MBA in Retailing by distance learning. He also teaches on RT06: Retail Marketing, for the MSc Retail Management.
The Institute for Retail Studies provides a number of consultancy services and short course programmes. I have been extensively involved in this and have worked for companies such as Storehouse, Greggs, Makro, Superquinn and Tesco Ireland.
